Zodiac According to the Encyclopedia Judaica, the Talmud makes no mention of the zodiac. The zodiac is first mentioned in the Sefer Yezirah, and the names given to the signs are direct translations of their Latin names. The Yalkut Shimoni contends that the 12 signs correspond to the twelve tribes. Maimonides rejected astrology completely, calling their beliefs vain superstitions unworthy to be called a science. The signs of the zodiac were often used in early Jewish art, however, and we use them today for decoration as well. |
