Hearts Our first set of hearts, set 02005, has a special meaning for us. One of our family members has, for years, collected stickers with heart themes. When we began Jewish Stickers, L.L.C., she asked us if we would make some heart designs for her. Just as we were getting into production, she suffered a cardiac event, and while she was in the hospital, one of our artists, who happens to be her daughter, designed these stickers for us. We were pleased to be able to give these designs to her for Valentine's Day 2002, and we are even more pleased to be able to tell you that she has recovered nicely, thank you! The heart is a nearly universal symbol of love. It represents compassion and sincerity as well as the warmer passions. Generous and caring persons are often said to have a big heart or a heart of gold. Some definitions of "heart" from The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language: "the vital center and source of one's being, emotions, and sensibilities"; "the most important or essential part"; "a person esteemed or admired as lovable, loyal, or courageous." Ahava is the Hebrew word for love. It is used to describe the relationship between G-d and man, as well as between individuals. The heart was once thought to be the source of all emotions. Shades of red and pink are traditional colors to represent romantic love. The chamsa, or hand of G-d, is of importance to Muslims as well as Jews. It is, to quote Rabbi Bruce Kadden of Salinas, California, a hopeful symbol that one day Jews and Arabs will be able to live together in peace.… And these words, which I |
